Reading The Numbers: 130 Million American Adults Have Low Literacy Skills, But Funding Differs Drastically By State

This article addresses a Gallup report and analysis of data from the U.S. Department of Education that shows 130 million adults, or more than half of Americans between the ages of 16 and 74 have low literacy skills and read below a sixth-grade reading level. This data from the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) highlights gaps in literacy and numeracy skills in the United States.
